In the post-war years, Poland manufactured tanks under Soviet licenses but retained potential for its own developments. In the 1960s, a project was proposed for the 63TP Rycerski heavy tank—a vehicle with a conventional configuration that aimed to combine the best Western and Soviet tank building innovations.
The design called for a modern level of firepower and mobility, as well as improved crew operating conditions. The gun elevation and depression would have been increased, and maintenance simplified. The ammunition was primarily located in a rear recess of the turret, making loading more convenient and giving the turret better balance by reducing the load on the aiming drives. The tank was never built.
